TRANSCENDING BOUNDARIES
by Terri Beck-Engel & Stefan Jensen

We've welcomed Terri Beck-Engel and Stefan Jensen back into the gallery for a showcase of new work. Terri and Stefan's work compliment one another with paintings in oil and cold wax. Their work holds no boundaries, and spans from western and regional landscapes to works of whimsical abstract, and beyond. Both artists draw inspiration from the world around them, employing imagination to represent their vision.

Come enjoy this new exhibit hanging on the main wall of the gallery during August and September 2025. Original pieces available in a variety of sizes and prices and you'll find both framed and unframed works by each artist. Brewery Pottery is open every day 10am-5pm. Pop by anytime!

Terri Beck-Engel - Artist Bio

Art-making takes me into to a space that feels a bit like a kid discovering a new world hidden right within the neighborhood. There’s a sense of wonder, playfulness, and most importantly a certain curiosity. The works in this exhibition range from contemporary landscapes to abstract paintings, each a celebration of color, shape and/or textures.

As an abstract artist using mixed medium, I delight in the ways I can express myself in creating art. It allows a freedom, a transcending of boundaries to interact with the medium and subject via color, texture and mark making. The natural landscape, shapes and forms, and imaginary places tend to be my most frequent sources of inspiration. My pieces reflect a process of adding and removing layers in order to create a history in the painting. Working abstractly provides a glimpse into the human inner landscape.

To create work that is hopeful, authentic and expressive is my goal. My motto is "Art for Everyone", reflecting a desire that art be accessible to all. I hope my work invites you to experience this.

Stefen Jensen - Artist Bio

A Keen observer of landscape, portraiture and nature; Stefan Jensen taught her artistic insights to children and adults for over 27 years. Stefan has organized and led a number of mural projects in the midwest and southwest Today she devotes her time to studio series and private commissions.

“I am deeply fascinated with the line of the horizon, the inherent beauty of nature and with human nature. As an independent artist every painting that I create is a study of one of more of these elements. I work with oil and cold wax to layer, scratch, and buff images onto a surface, initially a somewhat hectic and vibrant scene and then over many layers bringing the image to a state of calmness, much like a meditation.

Art has always been an intrinsic part of my life. As a child I breathed in the wilds of Colorado, Illinois, and Montana, awakening in me a love of place and an understanding of the value of the human connection to the earth. I am grateful to continue on this journey of reflection through imagination and creativity.”

Stefen Jensen - Oil + Cold Wax Tools

As a result of adding cold wax to oil paint some very exciting effects happen to the medium. This sets up a texture of visual interest and also allows me to scratch, squeegee, rub and imprint, etc,.. The possibilities are endless.

Additionally with added mediums an opalescent quality can be achieved through fine, thin layers. A few tools that I like to use are: Kitchen squeegee, hair brush, bubble wrap, cheese cloth, and a metal tube.

“Throughout this life my artistic vision and personal philosophy has been influenced by the creative contributions of Albert Einstein, Georgia O’Keefe, Maxfield Parish, Walter Ufer, and Toulouse Lautrec.
